Quick post! I’m currently sitting at a live shot location at the state Capitol and decided to post another mouthwatering appetizer to serve at your next football party: sausage balls. All you need is three—yes, THREE—simple ingredients:
•1 lb. bulk pork sausage (like Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage), at room temperature
•1 lb. Velveeta cheese, at room temperature
• 3 cups regular Bisquick
1. Mix Velveeta and sausage together in large bowl, until well combined. The easiest way to do this is to use your hands…it feels gross but sure beats mixing with a spoon!
2. Throw in the Bisquick and mix until well combined. Again, use your hands! Make sure to scrape up all the loose Bisquick and knead it into the sausagey-cheesy dough.
3. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Lightly spray a baking sheet and make little balls out of the dough. You can put about 20-25 balls into a regular 9×13″ baking sheet as they don’t really grow while baking.
4. Bake for 12-15 minutes on both sides, until browned on top and bottom.
This recipe comes from a friend I had in high school, Caitlin. She would always make them for school parties and they would end up being devoured in the first five minutes…so you had to get your hands on them fast! This recipe makes about 50 half-dollar size balls, but you could make them bigger or smaller if you like. WARNING: you will eat about a dozen in one sitting.
