Puppy Chow is one of those snacks that will bring an entire group together.
You can make it and serve it at a party or give it family and people will adore you. I’ve yet to meet a person who doesn’t like Puppy Chow.

I’ve made a few different versions in the past (cake batter was my favorite) but I wanted to make a version that gave a holiday vibe.
I mixed the powdered sugar with some hot cocoa, added marshmallows and a few other ingredients, and this holiday-inspired puppy chow was born!
Prepping Your Ingredients
You only need a few things to make an excellent Puppy Chow, but it’s integral to get the RIGHT ingredients.
You need to melt chocolate to bind the hot cocoa-powdered sugar to the Chex, and I’ve found the best chocolate to melt is baking bars.

I’ve melted chips before, too, but they’re just too unpredictable. I’ve seized chocolate far too many times in chip form. With baking bars, however, I’ve never had my chocolate seize.
You also need to decide which type of Chex cereal to use. I like the Chocolate Chex. It’s not ALL chocolate Chex in the box, by the way. There are also un-chocolatey Corn chex pieces.
Regular corn or rice Chex would work well, too.

Grab your favorite hot cocoa mix (ones with the mini marshmallows in it would be good!) and some powdered sugar, and you’re basically set on ingredients. I also added some mini marshmallows and chopped up Piroutte cookies to give it a true hot cocoa vibe.
Storing the Puppy Chow
This Puppy Chow can store for a few weeks in an airtight container.
If you have a Christmas tin, that works too! I’ve also bagged it up into Ziploc bags, squeezed out the extra air, and stored it that way.
However, this Puppy Chow probably won’t last long. Most everyone I know who has tried it gobbled it up in no time.
Enjoy!
