Easy Slow Cooker Apple Sauce

Apple sauce isn’t one of those items that you’d probably ever think about making yourself.

It’s so cheap and easy to just grab a pack in the store. Why would you ever want to make it more difficult?

That was my thought process before I made my own apple sauce for the first time. I thought, “there’s no way I’d make this myself.” Apple sauce is readily available in most grocery stores and there’s a WIDE variety at that. No need to make it myself.

Let me tell you though, I’m a firm believer now in homemade apple sauce. I’ve seen the light and I’m here to spread the gospel about it.

I’ll shout it from the rooftops if I must. Once you try making it yourself, there’s absolutely no going back. The commercial version doesn’t compare. It’s not even in the same realm of taste, honestly.

Homemade apple sauce is SO GOOD. It’s packed full of flavor and tastes better than I could have ever imagined. It’s an epiphany, truly.

It’s relatively easy to make yourself, too. So let’s get into it!

Apples for Your Apple Sauce

First things first, for this easy slow cooker apple sauce recipe, you need to choose the RIGHT apples.

Granny Smith apples just won’t do. Even with added sugar, they’re far too sour.

Red Delicious isn’t a good choice, either. Red Delicious apples have a muted flavor.

My favorite apples to use are either Fuji or Honey Crisp. They’re sweet, bold, and really give your apple sauce a good APPLE flavor.

Adding Extra Ingredients

The great thing about this easy slow cooker apple sauce recipe is how easy it is to adapt to different dietary needs.

For the anti-added sugar people, simply keep it out. Your apple sauce can just be apples and water if you want to keep it as natural as possible.

If you’re a big cinnamon fan like I am, add as much cinnamon to your heart’s desire. You can even add my favorite secret ingredient: apple pie spice. It’s the perfect blend of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. You can find it at most grocery stores, including Kroger.
