Creamy Beefy Shells

Time and time again, I turn to simple ground beef skillet dinners.

Whether it’s chili mac or homemade hamburger helper, I can’t get enough of ’em.

My husband also agrees. He loves the homemade cheeseburger helper I’ve made him a few times.

Ground beef skillet dinners are just so simple to make. You can have a full dinner ready in under 20 minutes.

Not only that, they’re extremely delicious. Who doesn’t love a good meat, cheese and pasta dish?

This recipe is very similar to a copycat Hamburger Helper: Cheesy Italian Shells recipe. It tastes like the boxed version, but better.

If you have twenty minutes and a handful of ingredients, you can slap this dinner together in no time.

Enjoy!

A creamy, cheesy beef and pasta skillet dinner recipe.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. medium or small shell pasta
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 TBS. olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 TBS. Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp. oregano (optional, I just like oregano)
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 2 TBS. all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 (15 oz) jar marinara
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • salt & pepper
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Directions

    1. Cook pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
    2. Meanwhile, in a large pot, heat oil over medium high heat. Add beef and cook, crumbling with a spoon, until browned, about 4-5 minutes. Remove beef from pan and drain, reserving a few teaspoons of grease. Add garlic and saute until fragrant, 1-2 minutes.
    3. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly stir in beef broth and continue cooking for a few minutes, stirring constantly.
    4. Stir in marinara sauce and Italian seasoning, oregano, and paprika. Let simmer for about 4-5 minutes. Stir in heavy cream, sour cream, and cooked pasta.
    5. Let mixture warm through for a few minutes and then stir in cooked beef and shredded cheese. Stir constantly until cheese is melted. Serve.
