Every year for Christmas, my aunt makes these savory/spicy crackers called Firecrackers.
They’re just Saltines cooked with red pepper flakes and ranch seasoning. They’re so simple, but OH SO GOOD.
I thought it would be a good idea to make that recipe but with Cheez-Its instead. Cheese, red pepper flakes and ranch seasoning? Sign me up.

These little Firecrackers came out so flavorful and absolutely addictive. I couldn’t stop eating them!
This is a great recipe to make a big batch of and have hanging around your house for Christmas parties. It also makes a great gift for friends, family, and coworkers.
Bag vs. Bowl for Firecrackers
To make this Firecracker recipe, you need to decide what type of tool you’re going to use to get that spicy-savory seasoning all over the Cheez-Its.
This recipe is sometimes also called trashbag crackers because people will use trashbags (unscented, of course) to mix the crackers with the oil and seasoning.

You can also use a gallon-sized Ziploc bag.

I just used the biggest bowl in my cabinet, then used a spatula and get the oil & seasoning all over the Cheez-Its. It worked perfectly!
Choosing Your Ranch Seasoning
People can be very picky about their ranch seasoning.
I know some people who will only use Hidden Valley. I like Hidden Valley, but it’s not my favorite.
My FAVORITE ranch seasoning is the Trader Joe’s version. It’s not always on the shelves (they rotate their seasonings throughout the year) but when it is, I load up. It’s got a little bit of sweetness to it that Hidden Valley lacks, which I like.

It also works perfectly for this Firecracker recipe!
Whatever ranch seasoning you decide on, make sure you use it liberally. The more seasoning on these crackers, the better.
Enjoy!
