One of the first TikTok videos I made to go slightly viral was a really simple recipe I made for my husband a few years ago.
It was not one I was expecting to blow up. In fact, I really didn’t think much of it. People latched onto it, though.

The recipe? Chicken and noodles.
It’s a Midwestern classic. A staple for families in Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. I, however, had never heard of it.
No, we’re not talking CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP. We are talking about chicken and noodles. It’s basically seasoned cubed chicken in a thick gravy with some thick homestyle noodles.

My husband grew up eating the stuff and enlisted me on his quest to make it from scratch. The recipe I posted was just about as basic as could be, but people loved it.
I decided to recreate that recipe—sort of. Instead of chicken, we’re using beef (beef stew meat, to be exact). A few more swaps here and there and it’s pretty much the same recipe but with a different vibe.
I’m not sure if it’s as good as chicken and noodles, but it sure is a good dinner to have on a cold winter night. Try it like the Midwesterners do, too: serve it over mashed potatoes.
Enjoy!

Directions
- In a large bowl, stir together flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper. Add beef stew meat and toss to coat.
- Melt butter in a large pot over medium high heat. Add beef and brown on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Reserve leftover flour. Remove beef from the pan.
- Add 2 tablespoons of the seasoned flour to the pot. Stir and then slowly stir in beef broth and water. Add beefy onion soup mix, salt and pepper. Let mixture come to a boil then add frozen noodles.
